Taxonomy
Psammodus angustissimus was named by Agassiz (1834).

It was recombined as Strophodus angustissimus by Agassiz (1838) and Agassiz (1843); it was recombined as Palaeobates augustissimus by Woodward (1889); it was recombined as Palaeobates angustissimus by Jaekel (1889), Schultze and Möller (1986), Maisey (1987), Chrzastek (2008) and Pla et al. (2013).
