Taxonomy
Araripogon axelrodi was named by Grimaldi (1990). Its type specimen is AMNH 43514, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Crato (AMNH collection), which is in an Aptian lacustrine - large carbonate in the Crato Formation of Brazil. It is the type species of Araripogon.
