Appendicysta was named by Hahn and Yuan (1989) [Sepkoski's age data: C Bash-u Sepkoski's reference number: 892]. It is not extant. Its type is Appendicysta allodapa.

It was assigned to Archegoninae by Hahn and Brauckmann (1989); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Proetidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
