Aprathia was named by Hahn and Brauckmann (1975) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-u C Vise-u Sepkoski's reference number: 895]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Carbonocoryphe (Aprathia) by Hahn et al. (1988) and Vanderlaan and Ebach (2015); it was reranked as Phillibolina (Aprathia) by Müller (2000).

It was assigned to Archegoninae by Owens and Tilsley (1995); to Phillibolina by Müller (2000); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); to Proetidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); to Carbonocoryphe by Hahn et al. (1988) and Vanderlaan and Ebach (2015); and to Phillipsiidae by Brezinski (2017).
