Taxonomy
Beryx germanus was named by Agassiz (1837).

It was recombined as Platycormus germanus by von der Marck (1858), von der Marck (1863) and von der Marck (1885); it was recombined as Berycopsis germanus by Patterson (1964) and Dietze (2009).
