Permodiphthera dubia was named by Tillyard (1926). It is an impression. Its type locality is Belmont (Pincombe 1925 coll), which is in a Changhsingian pond chert in the Croudace Bay Formation of Australia.
It was recombined as Permobrachus dubia by Evans (1943) and Evans (1956).
