Namuropyge (Coignops) was named by Gandl (1980) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-u C Bash-l]. Its type is Namuropyge (Coignops) martinezi.

It was reranked as Coignops by Jell and Adrain (2002) and Sepkoski (2002).

It was assigned to Namuropyge by Gandl (1980); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Aulacopleuridae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
