Dechenellurus was named by Maksimova (1960) [Sepkoski's age data: D Gedi D Emsi-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1106]. It is not extant. Its type is Dechenellurus ursus.
It was assigned to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Crassiproetinae by Owens (2006).
