Taxonomy
Permophilus hirtus was named by Kukalová (1966). Its type specimen is BMNH In.46104, a forewing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Belmont (BMNH collection), which is in a Changhsingian pond chert in the Croudace Bay Formation of Australia.
