Hydroscapha was named by Leconte (1874). It is extant. It is the type genus of Hydroscaphidae, Hydroscaphinae.

It was assigned to Hydroscaphidae by Cai et al. (2012); and to Hydroscaphinae by Kirejtshuk et al. (2023).
