Erbenicoryphe was named by Feist and Clarkson (1989) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fras-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1106]. Its type is Erbenicoryphe parvula.

It was assigned to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Tropidocoryphidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
