Celmus was named by Angelin (1854) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); to Dimeropygidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Raymondinidae by Adrain and Westrop (2007).
