Jimbokranion was named by Kobayashi and Hamada (1984) [Sepkoski's age data: P m Sepkoski's reference number: 528]. Its type is Jimbokranion subovalis.

It was assigned to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Ditomopyginae by Owens (2003).
