Lutesvillia was named by Cullison (1944) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-l]. Its type is Lutesvillia bispinosa.

It was assigned to Bathyurinae by Tremblay and Westrop (1991); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Bathyurellinae by Loch (2007).
