Novoameura was named by Brezinski (1991) [Sepkoski's age data: P Guad-l]. Its type is Anisopyge mckeei.

It was assigned to Proetidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Ditomopyginae by Owens (2003).
