Parachaunoproetus was named by Yuan (1988) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame-u Sepkoski's reference number: 802]. It is not extant. Its type is Parachaunoproetus guizhouensis.
It was assigned to Cyrtosymbolinae by Yuan and Xiang (1998); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Proetidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
