Neogriffithides was named by Tumanskaya (1935) [Sepkoski's age data: C Bash-u P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 624,892]. Its type is Neogriffithides gemmellaroi.

It was assigned to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); to Proetinae by Owens (2003); and to Bollandiinae by Flick and Shiino (2021).
