Taxonomy
Phillipsia was named by Portlock (1843) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l C Vise-l Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. Its type is Phillipsia kellyi.

It was assigned to Proetidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Phillipsiidae by Campbell and Engel (1963) and Brezinski (2017).
