Proetina was named by Pribyl (1946) [Sepkoski's age data: D Sieg Sepkoski's reference number: 421,933]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Tropidocoryphidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Proetinae by Johnson and Fortey (2012) and Bault et al. (2021).

R. G. Johnson and R. A. Fortey 2012Cephalon strongly vaulted (sag. and tr.), glabella tongue-shaped with three pairs of lateral impressions and preglabellar field convex steeply declined to border furrow. Axial and preglabellar furrows narrow and deep. Fixigenae narrow and palpebral lobes short. There is a median tubercle on occipital ring. Outside edge of anterior border thin, barely convex but outside edges of lateral borders thickening strongly posteriorly. The genal spines long and robust. Eyes large. The thorax has nine segments. Postannuli are narrow (sag.) and fulcra conspicuous. Pygidium broadly semicircular with a broad strongly vaulted axis and eight axial rings. Pleural field moderately convex and border furrow indistinct. Sculpture usually coarse granulation.
