Taxonomy
Proetopeltis was named by Pribyl (1965) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi-l D Eife Sepkoski's reference number: 1106]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Cornuproetus (Proetopeltis) by Alberti (1970).

It was assigned to Cornuproetus by Alberti (1970); to Tropidocoryphidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cornuproetinae by Basse and Lemke (1996) and Bault et al. (2021).
