Ranunculoproetus was named by Snajdr (1977) [Sepkoski's age data: D Gedi D Sieg Sepkoski's reference number: 1106]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Tropidocoryphidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002).
