Taxonomy
Schizoproetus was named by Richter (1912) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi-l D Give-l Sepkoski's reference number: 421,1106]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Schizoproetinae.

It was assigned to Schizoproetinae by Yolkin (1968) and Pillet (1972); to Dechenellinae by Zhou et al. (2000); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Proetidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
