Chimeromyia was named by Grimaldi and Cumming (1999). It is the type genus of Chimeromyiidae.
It was assigned to Eremoneura by Grimaldi and Cumming (1999); and to Chimeromyiidae by Grimaldi and Cumming (2009) and Jouault et al. (2020).
