Warburgella was named by Reed (1931) [Sepkoski's age data: O Ashg-m D Gedi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 795]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Proetidellinae by Chatterton and Perry (1977); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); to Proetidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); to Warburgellinae by Ivanova et al. (2009); and to Proetinae by Bault et al. (2021).
