Taxonomy
Palaeodictyopteron virginianum was named by Handlirsch (1906). Its type specimen is USNM 25635, a nymph, and it is an impression. Its type locality is McGinner's Mine near Hampton, which is in a Westphalian terrestrial horizon in West Virginia.
