Asteropyge was named by Hawle and Corda (1847) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi-u D Eife Sepkoski's reference number: 983,1106]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Phacopida by Sepkoski (2002); to Acastidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Asteropyginae by Van Viersen et al. (2019).
