Pompilopterus keymerensis was named by Rasnitsyn and Jarzembowski (1998). Its type specimen is BMB 018517/8, a forewing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Keymer Tile Works, which is in a Hauterivian pond mudstone/siltstone in the Weald Clay Formation of the United Kingdom.
