Lyrapyge was named by Fortey (1980) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-u]. Its type is Lyrapyge ebriosus.

It was assigned to Phacopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Encrinuridae by Jell and Adrain (2003).
