Taxonomy
Pleurosmilia craginiana was named by Wells (1933). It is not extant. Its type locality is Benbrook, which is in an Albian carbonate limestone in the Goodland Limestone Formation of Texas.

It was recombined as Axosmilia craginiana by Cairns (1991).
