Taxonomy
Hexacrinidae was named by Wachsmuth and Springer (1885). It is not extant. It is the type family of Hexacrinitacea.

It was corrected as Hexacrinitidae by Philip (1961) and Ubaghs et al. (1978).

It was assigned to Camerata by Goldring (1936); to Hexacriniticae by Philip (1961); and to Hexacrinitacea by Ubaghs et al. (1978).
