Taxonomy
Orbicella pecosensis was named by Wells (1933). It is not extant. Its type locality is University Mesa, Fort Stockton, which is in a Cenomanian carbonate limestone in the Main Street Limestone Formation of Texas.

It was recombined as Montastrea pecosensis by Cairns (1991).
