Flexicalymene (Onnicalymene) was named by Dean (1962) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara-l O Ashg-l Sepkoski's reference number: 378,795].

It was reranked as Onnicalymene by Sepkoski (2002) and Jell and Adrain (2003).

It was assigned to Phacopida by Sepkoski (2002); to Calymenidae by Jell and Adrain (2003); and to Flexicalymene by Dean (1962) and Hunda and Hughes (2007).
