Taxonomy
Physemataspis was named by Evitt and Tripp (1977) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llde-u O Cara-l Sepkoski's reference number: 795]. It is not extant. Its type is Physemataspis coopi. It was considered monophyletic by Moss and Westrop (2014).

It was assigned to Phacopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Encrinurinae by Evitt and Tripp (1977) and Moss and Westrop (2014).
