Taxonomy
Scombroclupea occidentalis was named by Giersch et al. (2011). Its type specimen is CPC-433, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Loma La Mula, which is in a Cenomanian/Cenomanian offshore lime mudstone in Mexico.
