Acrocephalites was named by Wallerius (1895) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm uMid-u Cm Dres-u Sepkoski's reference number: 81]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Conocoryphidae by Mason (1935); to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Acrocephalitidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
