Taxonomy
Archaegryllodes was named by Haughton (1924). Its type is Protogryllus (Archaegryllodes) stormbergensis.

It was synonymized subjectively with Protogryllus by Carpenter (1992); it was reranked as Protogryllus (Archaegryllodes) by Zeuner (1939) and Pérez-de la Fuente et al. (2012).

It was assigned to Gryllidae by Haughton (1924); to Protogryllinae by Gorochov (1995); to Protogryllidae by Ansorge (1996); and to Protogryllus by Zeuner (1939) and Pérez-de la Fuente et al. (2012).
