Taxonomy
Howqualepis rostridens was named by Long (1988). Its type specimen is NMVP 160795 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Mt. Howitt, which is in a Givetian lacustrine mudstone in the Lower mudstone unit Formation of Australia. It is the type species of Howqualepis.
