Elonichthys sweeti was named by Woodward (1906). It is not extant. Its type specimen is NMVP 10293, a skeleton (Complete fish). It is the type species of Mansfieldiscus.
It was recombined as Mansfieldiscus sweeti by Long (1988) and Cloutier and Arratia (2004).
