Proceratium was named by Roger (1863). It is extant. It is the type genus of Proceratini, Proceratiinae.
It was assigned to Formicidae by Baroni Urbani and de Andrade (2003); to Proceratiini by Bolton (2003) and Bolton (2012); and to Proceratiinae by Dlussky et al. (2015).
