Taxonomy
Microcaris was named by Pinna (1974) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Ladi-u Tr Nori Sepkoski's reference number: 531,619,693]. Its type is Microcaris minuta. It is the type genus of Microcarididae.

It was assigned to Concavicarida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Microcarididae by Schram (2014) and Ehiro and Kato (2015).
