Martinssonia was named by Mueller and Waloszek (1986) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Dres-l]. It is not extant. Its type is Martinssonia elongata.

It was assigned to Arthropoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Crustacea by Ortega-Hernandez et al. (2013); and to Mandibulata by Hegna et al. (2020).
