Carpiliopsis ornata was named by Fischer-Benzon (1866). It is not extant.

It was recombined as Caloxanthus ornata by Schweitzer et al. (2010); it was recombined as Caloxanthus ornatus by Schweitzer et al. (2017) and Klompmaker et al. (2022).
