Taxonomy
Paranecrocarcinus vanbirgeleni was named by Fraaije (2002). Its type specimen is MAB k.2278 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is ENCI Quarry (lower Meerssen Member), which is in a Maastrichtian carbonate limestone in the Maastricht Formation of the Netherlands.

It was recombined as Pseudonecrocarcinus vanbirgeleni by Schweitzer et al. (2016).
