Poulpus haeckeli

Discussion

Original description: Test small, subhemispherical with prominent lobated collar. Meshwork with somewhat variably sized tetragonal, pentagonal, and hexagonal pore frames with subcircular pores. Horn of medium legnth, triradiate in axial section with three narrow grooves alternating with three narrow ridges. Three arches (2 ALs and 1 AV) fused with test wall. Feet relatively massive, triradiate, unequal in length with the shortest foot connecting with dorsal bar. Two long feet curved inwards.

Etymology:This species is named for Dr. E. Haeckel, in honor of his pioneer work on Radiolaria.

Taxonomy
Poulpus haeckeli was named by Yeh (1987). Its type specimen is NMNS (000147) and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Suplee-Izee area, OR-600A, which is in a Toarcian marine tuff/limestone in the Hyde Formation of Oregon.
