Poulpus lupheri

Discussion

Original description: Test small, subhemispherical, with relatively large elliptical pores set in pentagonal and hexagonal pore frames. Pore frames covered by layer of microgranular silica on apical portion of test. Pore frames with moderately thick rims and thin sides. Horn massive, long, triradiate with narrow ridges alternating with very wide grooves, grooves nearly three times as wide as ridges. Three arches (2 ALs and 1 AV) fused on test wall.

Etymology: This species is named for Dr. R. L. Lupher for his early contribution to the geology of east-central Oregon, Tethyan Realm.

Taxonomy
Poulpus lupheri was named by Yeh (1987). Its type specimen is NMNS (000149) and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Suplee-Izee area, OR-589D, which is in a Toarcian marine mudstone/limestone in the Snowshoe Formation of Oregon.
