Pinnachorista imitabilis was named by Martynova (1961). Its type specimen is PIN 503/25, a forewing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Sarbala II (PIN collection 503), which is in a Kungurian terrestrial siliciclastic in the Tersinskaya Formation of the Russian Federation.
