Pyrgoma was named by Leach (1817) [Sepkoski's age data: T Plio R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Pyrgomatidae, Pyrgomatinae.

It was assigned to Cirripedia by Sepkoski (2002); to Pyrgomatidae by Jones (2007); and to Pyrgomatinae by Chan et al. (2021).
