Taxonomy
Platycheirus lethaeus was named by Melander (1949). Its type specimen is CU 19899, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Florissant, Fossil Stump Hill, which is in a Chadronian lacustrine - large shale in the Florissant Formation of Colorado.
