Taxonomy
Melanagromyza tephrias was named by Melander (1949). Its type specimen is AMNH 26621, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Florissant, Station 4, which is in a Chadronian lacustrine - large shale in the Florissant Formation of Colorado.
