Trypetesa was named by Norman (1903) [Sepkoski's age data: C Step R]. It is extant. Its type is Alcippe lampas. It is the type genus of Trypetesidae.

It was assigned to Cirripedia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Trypetesidae by Tomlinson (1963), Newman et al. (1969) and Chan et al. (2021).
